In these fraught times, it’s easy to get caught up in Defiance mode, and forget that we regularly need to feed our nervous systems (and souls) with gentleness, kindness, and quiet. If we can recharge with self-care, we can be more present to each other, and to opportunities for connection rather than conflict.
I was delighted when Rey reached out to offer this somatic practice to the Qstack community—it’s a reminder that when we feel overwhelmed, it’s within our power to reclaim peace.
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful engagement we’ve had this Pride Month. This lovely meditation is the perfect closing benediction as we move forward, together. We can return to it, and to each other, again and again whenever we need support—we are not alone, and we can never be defeated.
Much love to all of you ~

Meditation: Somatic Healing for the Queer Community
Body/Mind Connection with
I recently created my Substack, “Body/Mind Connection,” with two goals in mind: 1. building queer community, and 2. sharing about somatics with as many people as possible. Writing and recording meditations is a way for me to share somatic work that is more accessible than one-on-one or even group sessions. You can take these meditations with you wherever you go, and they’ll always be free.
When the external world is inhospitable, your internal world—your relationship with yourself— can become a refuge, if you can cultivate it. Many of us learned to internalize negative, critical self-talk, but that doesn’t mean it has to be that way forever. With practice, you can shift the way you relate to yourself and become your own sanctuary. This meditation is designed with that in mind.
My hope is that more queer people will be able to access somatic work and be able to feel safe and secure in their own bodies and to hold the whole range of their emotions without overwhelm. We are all capable of creating new neural pathways, which allows us to improve our ability to cope with, and rebound from, adversity.
When you deepen your relationship to yourself, you become more confident participating in community: to stand up to injustice, advocate for change, and take action in an oppressive climate.
Please share this meditation with anyone who might be open to it. There are more meditations like this on my Substack.
I’m sending you warmth and comfort.

Thank you Rey for this calming and supportive meditation, something we will all be needing in the months and years ahead. You're doing beautiful work!
This was such a gift, and perfect timing. I was able to practice on an identity-related shame experience I just had last night. It can be so hard to stay with the uncomfortable physical sensations of complicated emotions, and I got really good at disconnecting from this trans body that felt hostile to me in years gone by. Your gentle, skilled accompaniment made staying so much more easily accessible. Loved the soothing background track, too! My nervous system and body thank you, Rey. 💝💝💝
And Troy: thank you, thank you, thank you for the incredible goodness you curated for us during Pride month. You are a gem. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
