Hey, this piece is really neat. I mean neat as in compact, ordered, tidy. I mean neat as in clever. I mean neat as good. I mean neat as powerful.

I like the way you set out such a complex mindfuck in such an immediate way. The format really lays the issues bare.

Thanks! Clearly you are up on the concept of writing as a craft. I cut my teeth on short stories before I tackled novels, and that taught me the value of economical, structured writing. And it's hard not to be inspired by situations like the IVF FUBAR. It's not hard to be powerfully moved by horror. Thanks for commenting.

Hey, yes I think it is both craft and art. Without the skill, and constantly working on that skill so that it grows with us as write along the weeks, months, years, we really cannot come close to the art. I think that’s true across all genres. And what is so wonderful is that no two writers’ craft will be the same. It’s a kind of wonderful mystery.

Woah... I am genuinely, jaw on the floor, stunned. Thank you, Robin. This was a brilliant way of communicating the real horror and insanity of what we're up against at the moment. Mind blowing.

I know; isn't it crazy?

Seriously grim. What's the opposite of a Renaissance?

I think it would be the dark ages. We've been there, done that; let's not go back!

Terrifying. Cruel. Crazy. Shedding light on this is so right. Awesome piece, Robin. Thank you for sharing.

As a parent who needed IVF to grow our little queer family, these laws are terrifying. It's incredibly difficult to go through the IVF process as it is. Legal complexities would make it impossible to access for anyone.

I learned a lot about this process doing some research for this piece, and I came away astounded at what it takes—physically, emotionally, and financially. Anyone willing to do this deserves to be parents, and I'm glad you had success.

It was one of the best (and hardest) things I've done. We ended up with enough blastocysts to have our 2 super cool kids, and we donated the rest to research and training. I feel fortunate that we had those options. Families today and tomorrow deserve the opportunity to grow just like we have.

Great piece, Robin. Such scary times…

Thanks. And I agree; scary. At the same time, I like to think that when we see pushback—especially absurd stuff like this—it means we're making progress, we've frightened the willies out of the opposition, and they're getting truly desperate.
