Unsung: Queer Portraits of Authenticity and the Cost of Its Absence
Your support makes this work possible—help us keep it going
The Unsung team is delighted to announce that
, the official partner and short film festival of WorldPride Washington DC 2025, has awarded our short film the Innovative Storytelling Award. Thanks to John Boswell for this great honor! For anyone who was unable to attend the World Premiere on Substack Live this last Sunday, here is the official YouTube video hosted on
’s Unfixed Community channel.Unsung is a lyrical short film amplifying the voices of four LGBTQ+ individuals as they reclaim identity, rewrite inherited narratives, and step into the quiet power of living truthfully — a meditation on authenticity, well-being, and what it costs to be silenced.
Thank you so much to everyone who joined the screening, and the panel discussion afterward with our four cast members—

Thank you all for making this last year and Pride Month such a wonderful success.
I want to keep that energy and love going.
The content on Qstack will always be free to all, but I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make this model more sustainable.
I created a new Membership level to help support the time and effort required to create Directory listings and read submissions—Basic membership at $40/year, a permanent 33% discount off Full membership for people who just want to be featured in the Directory or submit work for guest posts.
But after such a wild and beautiful month—Pride parades and protests, poems and prose that cracked us open—I’ve realized I still don’t want to put limits on this space. I’d love if the support was entirely voluntary.
If just 2% of you donated the cost of a latte per month, everyone could participate completely free in this wonderful experiment.
“Thank you for your work - Qstack is amazing.” - A.A.

“Thank you for all this work you are doing!” - E.N.
Qstack was born from the idea of being as wide open and accessible as possible: radically generous, wildly queer, and deeply creative.
The Qstack Directory features the newsletters of over 400 queer writers and creators on Substack, and Qstack recommendations have generated hundreds of new subscribers for our community.
I’ve read and edited and formatted more submissions than I can count, and featured 60+ of you in posts that go out to over 3,000 subscribers and a network of 9,000 total followers.
I’ve curated, nudged, cheered people on, answered questions, written intros, hosted the Chat, hunted down news, designed graphics, featured your books and events, and shared everything I could to help this space bloom. Hundreds of hours over the last year. And I’ve done it all on a shoestring. On good will. On your lovely messages that I cherish—but I need your help.
